Studio Space Inclusive Arts triumphs at the Launceston Competitions.
St.Giles Studio Space Inclusive Arts drama groups took out first and second place in Class 85 of Launceston Competitions.
The section, Presentation by Support Schools, has been sponsored by the City of Launceston Lions Club and had been previously won by St.Giles from 1986-1988 and again by Studio Space in 2019.
Artistic Director Gerard Lane was proud of the efforts of the performers.
“The fact we had two different performance groups separated by a single point goes to show the depth of talent across the company” Mr Lane said.
“We would have liked to have matched St.Giles efforts of winning the section three years running after our win in 2019, but Covid meant that we had to wait an extra year just to go back to back.”
The Monday group, performing the Friends TV theme ‘I’ll Be There for You’ by the Rembrandts, pipped the Wednesday ensemble’s stirring rendition of Ben Lee’s Covid 19 anthem, ‘We’re All in This Together.’
As a sign of sportspersonship and generosity, the performers agreed that the first and second prizes should be combined and shared equally amongst the two ensembles.
The members of the Wednesday ensemble have recently graduated to the senior Monday ensemble making way for a new drama program.
SSIA are currently scouting for the next generation of inclusive performers to join our Wednesday junior ensemble, ages 8-14 years, from 345- 4:30pm @ St Giles Newstead.
