For the first time ever, a group of Flinders Island makers and designers will fly-in to sell their work at Launceston’s  Niche Christmas Market on Saturday, November 30.

They will be among 120 stallholders whose work will be available at two specially curated Christmas markets in Launceston and Burnie.

Visitors to Tasmania (and plenty of locals) can purchase cleverly designed and handmade gifts at both these ethical and super premium quality markets.

Launceston’s Albert Hall will be transformed into a European style Christmas market on Saturday, November 30 – 8am – 3pm.

“The arrival of the Flinders Island Makers is one of the most exciting developments of 2019,’’ Niche market manager Victoria Bayes said.

Located near Launceston’s famous City Park and just across from the popular Harvest farmers market, the Niche Christmas market has become somewhat a Launceston tradition. All items are designed and made by 62 local artisans, some of whom sell exclusively at Niche and nowhere else, including online.

“Be early. The market attracts between 4000 and 5000 Christmas shoppers and stallholders regularly sell out!’’ Mrs Bayes said.

In Burnie, NW Christmas Niche will be held on Saturday, December 7 at the Burnie Arts and Function Centre. It will boast Burnie’s biggest Christmas tree and more than 60 Tasmanian designers and makers.

The market will include a performance by the children who attend the neighbouring Autism Specific Early Learning and Care Centre.

Both markets are social enterprises where 100 per cent of takings are returned to children’s disability and autism services in Launceston and Burnie.

So, not only is your purchase perfectly handmade in Tasmania but you can be sure your spend is going directly into much-needed services children.
