Ron Horne Scholarship
The St Giles Society offers the Ron Horne Scholarship to Allied Health Professionals who are recent graduates, under graduates in the final year of their university studies or students attending practicums at the St Giles Therapy Centre.
The Scholarship is available to individuals wishing to specialise in the paediatric disability disciplines of speech pathology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or a related discipline.
It is an assistance package that will be negotiated to best suit the needs of the successful applicant but might include:
- contribution to HECS (student fees)
- accommodation assistance
- relocation expenses
In return for the Scholarship benefits, you must be prepared to undertake at least a 12 month employment contract with St Giles Therapy Services. Ongoing employment opportunities are subsequently available.
You will be based in Launceston, Tasmania's second largest city, located on the Tamar River in the north of the State.
The Ron Horne Scholarship has a maximum annual value of $10,000 (in addition to the salary package) with discretionary allocation and shared in the case of multiple recipients.
It is advertised in August each year (as required) or offered (at our discretion) to students attending practicums at the St Giles Therapy Centre.
Following the application period, telephone or face-to-face interviews may occur, followed by referee contacts.
Applicants must be prepared to work in the St Giles Therapy Centre for a minimum period of 12 months in order to be eligible for the scholarship.
Once the scholarship is offered, the assistance package will be negotiated together with the employment contract.
The successful applicant(s) will be announced once these negotiations have successfully concluded.
Applicants who fail to complete the required 12 month employment period may be required to repay part or all of the scholarship assistance package.
