The Examiner St Giles Appeal

Once again, St Giles and The Examiner have joined together to raise awareness and funds for the equipment requirements of children and adults with disabilities.

This appeal initiated in 2007 has raised in excess of $30,000. Last year the appeal was inspirational due to Joy Cox. Joy donned her trainers to race in the Burnie 10. A novice runner, Joy raised $11,000 for the appeal.

The appeal also gives many Tasmanians' with disabilities the opportunity to educate the public about their challenges and their lifestyle requirements. Many separate pieces of equipment are required by these children and these are often quite costly. The average cost of equipment for a child with a wheelchair disability is $180,000. This can create financial stress for many families and this appeal is designed to assist with this where it can.

We appreciate The Examiners commitment to St Giles and in actively raising awareness within the community for children and adults with disabilities.

We also appreciate the support that Northern Tasmanian give to this appeal. We are able to assist many of our clients with their equipment needs through the funds raised. As a community we are delivering on the St Giles promise of making a positive difference to the lives of Tasmanian children and adults with disabilities.
